Offerings

How many times do we make resolutions to do something, or event to quit doing something, for love of Jesus and before the day is done, we have failed? It is frustrating and often we make the resolutions again or we forget about the resolution because it seems impossible to us; but, there are two things we must remember.

First, we must keep in mind what Jesus tells us in the scripture, Matthew 19:26, "For human beings this is impossible, but for God all things are possible." We cannot make it alone, sometimes even in the simplest things in life, but we must ask Jesus for His help and then, the impossible does become possible. In those times when we struggle and fail, all we need do is run to Him and ask His forgiveness and then try again.

The second thing we must keep in mind - and this has helped me to keep from getting discouraged - is something St. Josemaria Escriva said, "How many times do you resolve to serve God in something and then have to content yourself - you are so weak - with offering him that frustrated feeling, the feeling of having failed to keep that easy resolution!" This is great news! Even in our failings, we have some small consolation in offering even that to our Holy God!
